Manila, 1 October—Whatever happened to the Binays?
As we enter the 2019 election season, it’s time to check up again on the Binays, who have more or less been quiet after patriarch Jejomar’s defeat in the 2016 elections—that is, until Jejomar announced that he’s running for Congress. Daughter Abby is running for re-election as Makati City mayor, whereas former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay’s participation in the coming elections remains to be seen.
In seeking a seat in the House, I wonder if Binay knows a thing or two about how the current administration’s campaign for federalism is about to go down. Hmm.
Speaking of the current administration—the administration party has been busy preparing for the coming elections, forming alliances here and there in what seems to me like a lead up to a Death Eaters Grand Reunion or something.
The party, called Hugpong ng Pagbabago, does not exactly scream change to me, because I’m in essence watching the Dutertes of Davao join forces with the Marcoses and Singsons of Ilocos, and that is certainly the sort of change exactly no one would be advocating for, except if they are directly benefiting from it in one way or another.
I’m wondering what the general opposition is up to, apart from releasing a lackluster list of senatorial hopefuls a handful of weeks ago, which included human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, former lawmaker Erin Tañada and re-electionist senator Bam Aquino—all of whom I like, to be honest, but eh.
