Manila, 22 October—Whiplash this early? You bet. In a previous entry, I said That Former Spokesperson had already dropped his senatorial bid. Okay, I was wrong. He’s still running for senator.
Actually, Former Spox had previously announced he was running as party-list rep for Luntiang Pilipinas, but apparently, there’s another person running under Luntian instead, and that’s journalist Michael Ubac, who is a former colleague at the Philippine Daily Inquirer. He covered major national beats and was PDI Employees Union president before he was promoted editor, and at the time of my departure from the paper, he was Day Desk Chief, a position which put Inquirer reporters in the field directly under his watch.
I’m not sure what the newspaper’s policy is, but I assume a courtesy resignation is in order, if only to avoid conflict of interest. It’s so hard to rebuild trust in media these days; we should all do our part to help it along, even if it means we ourselves have to leave it.
