incredible
Manila, 24 June—There are no words for how much we loved Incredibles 2! I can't believe it's been over a decade since the last one—I distinctly remember raving about that one with friends from my college org, and falling completely batshit in love with that little devil of a child Jack-Jack. As expected, Jack-Jack steals this show (watch out for that maginificent raccoon sequence and try to put down your drink for the time being), and the movie also delivers some need-to-discuss points about households with working moms and homemaker dads, and it's just lovely. ALSO EDNA. I can't with this movie, I hope I haven't spoiled it for you that much.
That said, we're just a bit disappointed that it didn't have some trigger warnings for extreme flashing lights. Girlfriend has vertigo, and she wishes the movie would contain appropriate warnings.
ALSO: We need to talk about that short before it, BAO.
!!!!
Please come discuss when you're done. Without giving away too much, yea a bit traumatizing, like most relationships with mothers. LOL.
Gay for this: Ocean's 8
I can't decide which Cate Blanchett outfit on Ocean's 8 outgays all of them, but eventually I had to: That this Han Solo getup does it for me probably speaks volumes about me as a lesbian, but yeah. I dig it. I dig it a lot.
Here are the other outfits via Broadly:
Every Outfit Cate Blanchett Wore in 'Ocean's 8' Made Me Gayer
Also, Ocean's 8 is my kind of heist movie, Sandra Bullock is underrated as a comedian, and don't get me started on Helena Bonham Carter oh my god. How can she be Bellatrix and this character it really does not compute, my brain hurts.
Tl;dr the distinct lack of boys is refreshing. Like, the men here could have literally been replaced by moving lamps and it wouldn't have mattered. Except for James Corden ("two of these!" tanginang comedic timing yan) James Corden was so lovely here, I read him as a woman.
Elsewhere on the Internet, a round-up
This campaign by Bench leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I mean, so much still needs to be done to educate people about what it means to be LGBTQIAP and I don't think it's helpful or cute at all to sell things under this premise.
These clips from that "Titibo-tibo" episode on MMK are actually pretty authentic and heartfelt, and I hope that the homophobes who got baited by that trailer and were expecting a grand validation of their homophobia got schooled properly or at least were made very uncomfortable and awkward. I just feel sad that many of us (yes, me included) stayed away from that episode because we thought, as the trailer showed, that this was an episode that would not speak for us; that this was an episode that would be triggering or that would not speak authentically of our experience. I speak as someone who has hoped for positive representation of LGBT issues, particularly on TV, and has been let down repeatedly. I mean, if we could not even trust trailers for shows that purportedly show good representation (then end up killing off said lesbian after x episodes), how can we trust trailers that are outright homophobic?
PS: That song is still trash btw. Anyway—
This article about the Philippine LGBT Chamber of Commerce gives me so much hope. I hope they're taking volunteers, because I'd love to work with them.
