one hell of a time
Manila, 7 July—How’s your weekend doing so far? We have been deliberately avoiding Stranger Things Season 3, which is perhaps the biggest debut on Netflix this weekend, in favor of catching up with past seasons of Lucifer.
I personally cannot believe I have been sleeping on Lucifer since it came out in 2015, but we’re getting to know the characters better now, and quite enjoying the entire police procedural structure dashed with all things heavenly and hellish. Tom Ellis plays lead Lucifer Morningstar, fallen angel and Hell’s ruler—only he’s opted for some sort of early retirement. Instead of being in Hell, he is currently managing a bar called Lux—and in Los Angeles, no less.
In the pilot, he meets detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German, who played Leslie Shay in Chicago Fire) after getting entangled in his friend’s murder. Entranced to finally meet a woman who is seemingly immune to his devilish charms, Lucifer keeps working with Chloe in her cases, aptly assisting in punishing criminals.
As if the whole Lucifer helps bring criminals to justice here on Earth-thing is not charming enough, the show’s ensemble is also quite endearing. We have Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel (played by DB Woodside, whom I recognized as Principal Wood from Season 7 Buffy the Vampire Slayer), who is tasked to bring Lucifer back to hell; Lucifer’s demon-friend Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) who runs Lux with Lucifer and is the most interesting character for me; and Lucifer’s therapist Dr Linda (Rachael Harris), who is my second favorite character haha.
If you’re familiar with Castle, which starred Nathan Fillion as a best-selling mystery novelist and Stana Katic as a homicide detective, you’d probably get the same vibe from Lucifer. This comparison is actually our buy-in hehe since we also enjoyed Beckett and Castle’s banter and slow burn.
Here’s the official trailer for your consideration.
I know, what a good looking bastard eh? :)
Have a hell of a time,
K.
