puddle season
Manila, 16 June—When I was younger and more protective of my summers, I dreaded June the most. For decades, June meant going back to school and waking up early and homework and exams; it meant the onset of the rainy season and puddles and umbrellas. It meant the end of lazy summer days, of swimming on weekends and TV on weeknights.
June meant the end of fun.
When I graduated from college, one of the first things I noticed was that June lost most of its personal bad rap. Yes, it was still the onset of the rainy season, and yes, it was still gloomier than the months that immediately preceded it (March, April, May) but without all that school-related baggage, June was otherwise okay.
Post-college, adult working life meant all the other months had the opportunity to be just as bad hahaha. As with all of life, no one is ever truly free of season-related dread, whether they occur in Junes or elsewhere in the calendar.
Tl;dr—Post-graduation Junes (and Julys and Augusts, for that matter) are their own animals.
Mid-June now, and despite coming to the blank page at least once every week for these updates, I can’t help but get the feeling of where has the rest of the year gone??? I mean—don’t you? Haha. Almost halfway into this year and I still get that feeling that I haven’t documented it well enough, if at all. I feel like sometimes I don’t notice enough things going on, or I don’t commit the right things to memory, or whatever.
I don’t know, maybe it’s a June thing, too.
Still on the topic of my college block marking 18 years this month: This crew sat down for this month’s edition of brunch, and it was great catching up!
Some points worth revisiting in the next edition:
Maybe we should do a podcast? #kafeeling
Maybe we should do a cooking show?
Maybe we should buy a franchise… business? LOL.
Quote of the day (Guess who?): “Kaya malakas ang loob ko magluto kasi ako lang naman ang kumakain.”
Spoiler corner: We watched Men In Black: International featuring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson and our little gay hearts loved it so so much (#ResistTogether LOL)
Believe the promos when they say this is a Tessa movie because it is a Tessa Movie: She kills it in a black suit, she looks fantastic wielding large weapons and oh my god she shoots all over Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower (don’t ask) and ends the scene with a big gay sigh and I swear it’s just—lord. I thank the Lord for girls and Tessa Thompson.
Also: This is definitely a Thor/Valkyrie AU. Don’t walk—run.
Speaking of #ResistTogether: We cannot wrap our heads around the support we got for our Pride merch!
Thank you so so much.
We’ve donated the first tranche of proceeds over the weekend—and as long as the stickers are selling, we’ll be donating until the end of the month to make sure this Pride celebration happens and the people behind it are supported by enough funds to execute it well and to take care of themselves while at it.
That said: We’re still taking sticker orders in the weeks to come! Feel free to shoot us a message by replying to this email, visiting Cha’s Instagram or sending me a DM on Twitter.
Thank you and see you at Pride! Xo,
