first couple of months-ish: jan-feb shenanigans
Hey there, thanks for opening! Naitawid din natin ang Enero at Pebrero haha! How has 2023 been for you so far? Hope you’ve been well! Mixed bag of updates—I figured if I don’t write them down, I’d forget about them, so. Here goes. Hope you find something useful and/or entertaining here. -K
We always say January is long but hell, February is too damn quick. So much for the trial period for 2023! Wala nang solian. Eto na yun lol.
Anyway, it’s been a fun 2023 so far! Some life things:
Attended my first in-person K-Pop concert ever ever and it’s an ITZY Concert! It was so fun??? We’ve always been fans of live music, so we’ve really missed going to concerts over the pandemic. This was my first time to attend a concert for any Korean group—ITZY and TWICE are both under JYP so this was basically research haha. ITZY’s a great group overall, but this concert really had us Ryujin-biased / Yeji-wrecked. I’ll do it again in a heartbeat—come back to MNL, ITZY! <3
Anyway, January was also M4 month, which is the world championships for Mobile Legends. It was a great run for both PH Teams as they both made it to the finals! Superteam Echo defeated reigning M3 champions Blacklist International in a very decisive Finals sweep—4-0. Much deserved! I’m a Blacklist girl myself, but I saw how Echo played in the Finals and I really thought they were the better team.
Speaking of in-person things—we’re watching movies at the cinemas again, and we caught Avatar in 3D/4DX. I must admit that I got into the franchise late—I watched the original 2009 Avatar just recently, which actually was perfect preps for the Avatar sequel. Watching in 3D/4DX was really… an immersive experience haha pun intended. I felt like I were still floating in water even as I tried to sleep that night LOL. Also the movie was 3 hours, but it didn’t feel like it? It was so engaging, although the constantly moving seats + water misting + occasional bubbles (??) sure helped it along haha.
Speaking of 3D/4DX - we caught BTS Yet To Come at the cinemas! It was so fun—masakit lang sa katawan! Hahaha :) Nakakamiss mag-concert!!!
Attended sunrise yoga for Almi’s birthday <3 I haven’t been to yoga in so long—the last time was also under her tutelage hehe right before we got shutdown by the pandemic—but I’m always grateful to be able to join her class.
We were in Singapore briefly! I have an Instagram reel to prove it HAHAHA.
We’re also catching up with a few shows, while time still permits. Some Netflix things:
The Glory. YO THIS SHOW. This show. Please watch this show. Not a light one, no definitely not, but oh so damn satisfying. Season 1’s eight episodes are up, and the new season is dropping March 10th. GET ON IT. Song Hye Kyo is AMAZING.
Squid Game S1. Speaking of being late to everything, we’ve finally finished Season 1 of Squid Game. YEAH I KNOW. I know. I’m just glad I’ve already caught up before Season 2 drops, just saying.
GUYS PLEASE WATCH Park Chan-wook’s DECISION TO LEAVE. Starring Chinese actress Tang Wei (Lust, Caution), the movie has just been added on Netflix, and it’s so damn good. So good that RM has an edit of it to his song Closer on his Instagram. And oh my god, that ending. Just. Please watch.
Afterthought I cannot parse a.k.a. something to think about: AI and writing
But also:
Updates from TWICELAND
Okay so we’re hitting the ground running because in January, TWICE announced their latest comeback “Ready to Be” is dropping this March. They also dropped their pre-release single Moonlight Sunrise last month, and this place has been batshit crazy since.
“Baby let’s do it all night”—hala ano daw???
It’s also their second full English track, next to The Feels—apt, considering they also just announced a World Tour, which kicks off in Seoul in April and traverses Japan, US, Australia to name a few countries. “Part 1” daw—utang na loob TWICE!!!!
oh btw they also announced their first sub-unit (a.k.a. sooboonit lmao) MiSaMo, composed of their Japanese members Momo, Sana and Mina—nobody has recovered from those opening trailers, really. They also dropped their first OST for a Japanese show and it was so NICE.
Anyway, I’m just ready to be broke for the first half of the year (haha) and I am terrified of TWICE in PH ticketing. Let’s be real.
From around the Internet
Anyway—just some things we found on the internet these past few weeks lol.
Rival authors in a small fandom sending each other things irl i’m—it’s so cute T___T
Laundry and taxes but make it Jolina and Marvin
“We manifested MOMO” [sound on] — a warning, because our Ready To Be unboxing clips will be EXACTLY like this.
Things I would give up vital organs for: A wlw version of The Proposal
Jennifer Coolidge in TikTok is me.
Thankfully, I’m not on TikTok as a creator, though I do like hanging my newfound Instagram reels skillz over C’s head like an ever-present threat HAHAHA. We’re looking forward to traveling a lot this year, so—there definitely will be a lot of THAT.
Lastly:
Di ko na rin alam guys.1 Enjoy?
This has been a mixed bag of things—hopefully I’d remember down the road that it’s been fun, because this year is going to be hectic.
Thanks for reading this far. See you in the next one.
XO,
K
I have half a mind to make a non-private substack and dump all of my twice stuff there.
